You work with me. Just me.
Independent means I work for you, not for one insurance company.
One person, from first call to covered.
I'm Evan Richard, a licensed life insurance agent based in Brick, New Jersey, at the Jersey Shore. I'm independent, which means I'm appointed with many insurance companies and I compare them for you. I sell term, whole life, final expense and indexed universal life. The product I recommend is the one that fits the job, and sometimes that's the one that costs the least.
You get my number, not a queue. I answer my own phone. I run my own illustrations. I file my own paperwork. And when life changes in five years, you call the same person who set you up. That is the whole model.
I'm a practicing Catholic, and it shapes how I work more than what I sell: tell the truth, put the family first, and don't sell anyone something you wouldn't put your own name on.

How I'm paid, since nobody tells you.
The insurance company pays me a commission when a policy is issued. The price of the policy is the same whether you buy it through me or directly from the company. I don't charge fees, I don't sell securities, and I don't manage money.
Commissions on permanent policies are usually higher than on term. I tell you that out loud because it's the reason to be suspicious of any agent who only ever recommends permanent coverage. If term fits, I say term.
Three things I put on the screen that most people are never shown.
What does the cash value look like if the index credits 0% three years in a row?
It happens. The charges don't stop.
What are the total policy charges in years 1 through 10, in dollars?
Not a percentage. Dollars.
In what year does the illustration show the policy funded enough to carry itself?
And what happens if you stop paying before that.
If an agent won't do that for you, that's your answer about the agent, not the product.
Look me up.
Verify any agent before you give them a dollar. Your state insurance department has a free license search, and nipr.com covers every state.
